Question: Dreadlocks and dandruff?

By

Question by Lady_Metal: Dreadlocks and dandruff?
I am about to get dreadlocks…. ( I would like to start them tomorrow ) but the last few weeks I have been oddly suffering from dandruff. Plus I got a light sunburn on my scalp 2 days ago. Now I have done dreadlocks on people and I know it is no easy task at all! So I hate to have to change my plans since I have someone who is willing to take the about 20 hours I predict it will take to do them. What can I do to get rid of the dandruff very soon? I have been using head and shoulders for 2 weeks but haven’t seen any thing change. I bought all my dread products for dread head hq, but haven’t seen anything about dandruff on the website…… Help

Answer by Jerry
Dandruff might have something to do with the exfoliation of scalp skin, i.e the peeling off of dead skin. I suggest you consult with the Dermatologist nearest to you for the best advice. I hope this helps.

Question about natural African American hair: (truly kinky hair)?

Question by florita: Question about natural African American hair: (truly kinky hair)?
For those of you that wear un-relaxed natural hair, What styles do find to be the least damaging? I had fallen in love with my 2-strand twists, but I am scared to put them back in my hair b/c last time when I took them out, I lost a lot of hair–now, I had them in for 7 weeks, so maybe that’s why, but if next time I keep them in for only like 2 weeks, will it not be as damaging to my hair? Thanks for all your answers.

i know many black women w/ natural hair, and the ones w/ short hair just wash it, then comb it and go, and on most of them it looks good. most of the ones w/ longer hair that i knwo get it pressed. but none of them have damaged hair

Question: Number of Dreadlocs!?

By

Question by CaramelBabi: Number of Dreadlocs!?
Hi, I’m about to get dreadlocs for the first time this weekend and they are going to be small. My question is how do you determine how many dreadlocs you want. I mean I’ve heard people say that they have 145 or some up to 400. I was wondering how do you get that many locs? Is it because of smaller parts or what?

Best answer:

Answer by Susan
Yes, you are correct. The smaller the parts in your hair, the smaller your locs will be. The locking process called Sisterlocks is an example of very small locs, 400 is not uncommon for this type of locking process. Often, small numbers of hair strands are used to start the locs. Other locs, that are done by twisting or braiding are often larger (larger parts in the hair), while freeform locs (letting your hair do it’s own thing) tend to be very large.

I would not worry about the number of locs to get. I would just focus on what size locs I want, and let the locktician do what he/she does. Find some photos online or in a magazine, and show it to your locktician and they can help you out.

By the way, I think you’re going to love your new locs!!!

Question: Dreads, Locs, Twist!!! Help?

By

Question by OHwlfYESuxxxZ: Dreads, Locs, Twist!!! Help?
Ok so I just got my hair touched up and it was super by accident. I am currently thinking of getting locs, like Goapele. ( check google if you dont no what Im talking about) and I need to know everything if possible about getting them. I know I am going to have to grow out my perm and I am ready it might take almost a year or so, but when I am ready and It gets all natural what is the process for locs,? Anyone please help. Life altering decision here please lol. Thanks.

Answer by adinkralove
Relaxed hair will not lock so you are right about having to grow out the perm. There are so many ways to lock your hair now days. You can start with twists, braids, comb coils or tool assisted locks.

I have Sister Locks http://www.sisterlocks.com/ and although I started with 6 inches of un-processed hair (no perm) you can start Sister Locks with permed ends. You just need about 1 1/2″ to 2″ of new growth. The permed ends are left loose and can me styled.

Since you’ve been thinking of getting locs for a while, why not get to know your natural hair while growing out the perm. After having perms for a while, it takes time for your scalp and hair to return to it’s natural/healthy state. There are a lot of style options you can try while growing out your perm.

I have sisterlocks…they were done and are retightened with a tool. This is a never ending process since my hair is so thick and my locs so small. But My hubby has traditional locs…I palm roll his roots when they start to grow out about 1/2 inch, sometimes longer when I can’t make him sit.
